My top ten list
Things I learned this Christmas:
#10. Do not leave everything to the last minute or everything you wanted to be, do or have -- will not be, be done or get gotten.
#9. Do not expect the tissue paper in the gift bag you are delivering to your manicurist on her last working day before Christmas to stay crisp in the pouring rain.
#8. If you can't have snow on your Christmas tree, you can fake it with pieces of cotton batten.
#7. You can buy a beautiful white satin tree skirt with pink roses at the Bay at 50% off on Christmas Eve.
#6. Do not expect your husband to help with the cooking because he is out doing last-minute Christmas shopping with his son-- procrastination seems to run in the family.
#5. Believe Leo, Fran's husband, when he says not to roast the chestnuts too long at the high temperature because they will pop and make a mess of your new oven, even if the chestnuts are from Italy.
#4. When using eleven egg whites for your Cranberry Angel Food cake, find the gizmo that separates the egg whites before you begin the recipe not after, or else expect a mess.
#3. Do not hope to find the separated egg yolks you saved the morning after for some yet-to-be-discovered recipe because your husband will have thrown away the gooey mess.
#2. The Christmas village will look much better under the tree than in the box, so get started, say, after Halloween next year.
and the #1 thing I learned this Christmas is...
When you ask Santa for a fireplace you get an IPOD.

I love your top ten list. Definitely Letterman material! And so you. By the way, you will get infinitely more pleasure out of the iPod than the fake fireplace, especially in July. Merry Boxing Day!
True; ah gee, I asked Ben to return it b/c I was not sure how much I'd use it; the old am I deserving enough surfacing I fear.
Are you kidding? You, who loves music so much?! You will definitely use it. Remember how much you loved the music I played in our room on our Ireland trip, and also on the plane. You can take your music with you wherever you go. Also, when you go out for your morning walks on Nuns' Island, you can do it to music.
