Ten days until Spring

There is something infinitely healing in the
repeated refrains of nature -- the assurance
that dawn comes after night, and spring after winter.
~Rachel Carson, biologist, writer, ecologist (1907 - 1964)
In 1962, naturalist Rachel Carson published "Silent Spring" and touched off the environmental movement in the United States. Rachel Carson died of breast cancer on April 14, 1964, following a long battle. "Silent Spring" warned us of the dangers of unbridled pesticide use -- and the likelihood that Spring mornings would some day be silent and devoid of wildlife.
