In the morning, Volendam passed Wolf Rock off Dall Island to reach Chatham Strait. At the Kake Pilot Station we embarked the southeastern Alaska pilots to provide local knowledge in navigating Tracy Arm. We then turned into Frederick's Sound which led us to Stephen's Passage and Tracy Arm for our scenic cruising. This was my first view of a glacier up close and personal! At approximately 10:00 a.m. we turned around and again headed towards Stephen's Passage. Tracy Arm Fjord is only 50 miles south of Alaska's capital city of Juneau. This Fjord is part of the Tracy Arm -- Fords Terror Wilderness Area and is approximately 22 miles long and less than a mile wide. This Fjord was carved by 2 tidewater glaciers (South and North Sawyer) that are still very active. This was touted in our "Daily Program" as one of Alaska's special places not to be missed! And we didn't!!
